Dan’s the man at Pontefract
Richard Guest’s doughty stayer is a regular in the West Yorkshire track’s long-distance races and last year he won two and finished second twice.
Dan Buoy won the corresponding race 12 months ago off a mark of 57. He is 10lb higher in the weights now, but he continued to improve throughout last season, despite his advancing years.
Guest appears to have given him a nice little pipe-opener over hurdles so he should not be lacking for fitness.
He might not be the most straightforward of characters, but he does go especially well for young Billy Cray.
One yard who have started the season in cracking form is that of John Quinn and his Speed Dating can finally get back in the winner’s enclosure now he is back on the level in the Paddock Package Handicap.
He patently hasn’t taken to hurdling and was an expensive failure on his last outing at Uttoxeter.
Having run in the Cambridgeshire last season though, he obviously has plenty of ability and Jamie Spencer’s booking catches the eye.
