Bog Warrior can make it third time lucky
Tony Martin’s Bog Warrior is a hopeful nap choice to cope with 23 rivals in the explicit.ie Maiden Hurdle.
He’s clearly been backward and, as a seven-year-old, has only two runs under his belt. Bog Warrior made a winning start in a Fairyhouse bumper, staying on strongly late to beat Jessica Harrington’s Burn And Turn by three parts of a length on New Year’s Day.
He then reappeared over flights at Navan in the middle of February and was well supported in the market to land what looked a competitive contest.
Owned by the Gigginstown House Stud and partnered by Davy Russell, Bog Warrior ran near the front throughout, but was a beaten third when falling at the last, race won by Lios A Choil from Jetson.
That contest was over two miles and, with Martin’s charge shaping like a stayer, it was understandable why Russell, currently on the injured list, made so much use of him.
Davy Condon, a first-class hold-up jockey, has been booked on this occasion and perhaps different tactics will now be adopted, with another half a mile to cover.
Mouse Morris’ Baily Green gets the vote in the opening www.corkracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle.
He was returning from a little break when fourth behind Flemenstar at Navan earlier this month and there is definite room for improvement.
Baily Green is fancied to reverse placings with Marlos Moment, who was third at Navan, four lengths clear of the selection.
Feature event is the Boole Handicap Hurdle, with the nod here falling on Dessie Hughes’ Raz de Maree.
Hughes has enjoyed an excellent campaign and Raz de Maree, narrowly beaten by stable companion Rivage D’Or at Naas, shouldn’t be too far away.
