Divers delivers
Graham Lee was superb as he gradually eased the grey into a race that was run at a strong gallop. Divers made a mistake at the third last fence but Lee got him back on an even keel and brought him through on the inner to challenge Quantitativeeasing and Vino Griego at the last.
He jumped that obstacle with great fluency and quickened up nicely on the run to the line to score convincingly by two-and-three-quarter lengths.
Murphy said: “We knew he wasn’t good enough for championship races so we thought we’d come for this race and get him a nice mark, but we’ve nearly overdone it.
“He’s matured a good bit in the last few months and it’s always nice to make a plan.
“I wasn’t too cool watching the race as Graham had him last turning in, but that’s him. They were probably going fast enough early and he had one or two problems coming through, but thankfully we had a top man on our side.”
Lee said: “Ferdy wanted me to keep him out wider but I said there was no chance and I’d keep him as close to the rail as I dare. It was rough at time, but he fenced beautifully and was very clever with his feet.
“At the second-last he was stood on the board but he stood up well and got over it and in the end I’ve got there too soon. The satisfaction of winning here tops everything.”
