DUNGUIB is reported to be responding well to treatment following a setback last week and is on course to make a belated reappearance at Gowran Park next month.

Trainer Philip Fenton is targeting the Red Mills Hurdle on February 12 for his stable star after poor blood results forced Dunguib to miss the BHP Insurances Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday.

“He’s grand, he’s fine. He appears to be responding to the antibiotics, so now hopefully he’ll run in the Red Mills,” said Fenton.

“Hopefully we’ll get him there in good order and the idea after that at the moment is to go on to Cheltenham.”

The eight-year-old, who holds an entry in the Stan James Champion Hurdle, won the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival in 2009 and was third to Menorah in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle there last March.

He has not been seen since finishing sixth to Hurricane Fly in the Rabobank Champion Hurdle at Punchestown in April.
