Sumdancer set to pounce
Michael Madgwick’s nine-year-old has won three races at the track and turned in countless other valiant efforts in defeat.
Even though he can be considered high enough in the weights, the Revelstoke Wine Company Handicap Chase still looks cosily within his radar.
Much will depend on tactics, however, as Sumdancer is invariably at his best when endeavouring to make all of the running.
That point was succinctly illustrated at Fontwell in October when he did not see a single soul before being driven out for a convincing verdict.
Madgwick’s charge has been a shade more restrained since then, which could well have stifled his freewheeling nature.
That appeared the case over course and distance at the beginning of the month when he was prominent, but made a bad mistake along the back straight and finished fourth for the third time on the spin.
Now back on a double-figure rating, a more positive approach could feasibly see a return to the winner’s enclosure for this individual, who will revel in the conditions.
Fakenham plays host to a neat card, on which Night Orbit should take all of the beating in the Hempton Beginners’ Chase.
He has also taken to chasing with ease, having shown a willing attitude to take second over this trip at Southwell in November.
