Williams poised for further success

EVAN WILLIAMS has his string in decent nick and can bag another success courtesy of Phidippides in this afternoon’s Leicester Annual Members Novices’ Chase.

Williams poised for further success

The Welsh handler fired in a nice winner with Chrysander on Monday and in the selection he has a really nice prospect on his hands.

A smart hurdler – he was beaten just once from three starts and only a shade below top class – he looks made for the bigger obstacles and was narrowly denied on his debut behind highly-touted French import Rock Noir.

He then made no mistake at Ludlow as an odds-on favourite and could take high rank.

Aussie Dollar looks the best bet on the card at Southwell in the Visit Nottinghamshire Maiden Stakes.

Trained by Andrew Balding, the three-year-old has shown enough promise in two runs to date to suggest that a midweek maiden on the all-weather should be well within his compass.

Well bred, by Dansili out of a Spectrum mare, the youngster certainly looks to have the best form on offer and the only danger could come from one of his unraced opponents.

He may have been beaten 15 lengths on his debut at Yarmouth in October but that was not a bad performance at all.

The winner, Michael Stoute’s Sea Moon, is related to Workforce and was backed as if defeat was out of the question. The ground was also heavy.

Aussie Dollar finished fourth and progressed further when last seen at Kempton just 13 days ago.

He was beaten just over three lengths by John Gosden’s Rasheed, and with representatives from Brian Meehan and Michael Jarvis also in front of him it could turn out to be a hot race.

David O’Meara has made such a cracking start to his training career we are no longer able to get big prices about his runners. He has made his name improving horses from other stables and Ingleby King has just joined from David Barron.

However, this is slightly different circumstances as the five-year-old has won his last two races.

He is now 11lb higher than the first of those wins but O’Meara has obviously spotted some potential and after a month off the shorter trip could be a bonus in the Play Roulette At bluesq.com Handicap.

Finn’s Rainbow can defy a penalty in the bluesq.com On Your iPhone Handicap.
