Landmark Rome win for Dettori
The Italian ace dashed to Rome after winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf on the Brian Meehan-trained Dangerous Midge to take the ride on the five-year-old for Godolphin, his main employers.
And it proved well worth it as Rio De La Plata followed up his Group One triumph at San Siro last month with a second successive win at the highest level.
Leading a furlong out, the Saeed bin Suroor-trained entire stayed on strongly over the mile and a quarter to land a comfortable success over Voila Ici.
It was a landmark success for Dettori as it took him to 100 Group/Grade One winners for Godolphin.
