Hanagan basks in title glory

IN the end it did not quite come down to the very last race, but the destination of the 2010 British Flat jockeys’ championship was not sealed until the penultimate event at Doncaster on Saturday.

Only after that contest was it a mathematical impossibility for Richard Hughes to overhaul Paul Hanagan, who had led right from the start of the campaign and hung on by just two winners to seal his first ever title.

The likeable Warrington-born 30-year-old was forced to travel the length and breadth of Britain in recent weeks in search of valuable winners, as Hughes pushed him every step of the way.
