MICK KINANE yesterday dampened hopes of a first Irish winner of the Melbourne Cup for eight years, arguing that the trip could well prove beyond Dermot Weld’s star filly Profound Beauty.

Twice a winner of one of the most prestigious races in the world with Vintage Crop and Media Puzzle, the Rosewell House trainer has come to Australia hoping to make it a hat-trick.

However Kinane, who was aboard Vintage Crop for the star’s seminal 1993 triumph, when he became the first jockey to ride an international horse to glory, has played down talk of another Irish raider taking home the gold next Tuesday.
