Dalton’s course betting permit revoked
The committee made the decision yesterday, following a review of its investigation into complaints concerning non-payment of bets by Dalton at the Listowel Festival in September.
Paul Finegan, manager of the betting division of Horse Racing Ireland, said: “All complaints submitted to HRI by punters have been forwarded to Mr Dalton, who remains responsible for their payment.’’ Dalton left Listowel on the Saturday of the Festival owing punters in the region of 30,000. He laid two favourites near the end of the afternoon, Jack Cool and Laughing Boy, and both won.
He was unable to meet his liabilities and didn’t stand for the final race, ironically also won by the market leader, Cloone Rocket.
Dalton said yesterday: “I’m very sorry for what happened at Listowel, but am not in a position to meet the outstanding bets. At the moment I simply have no way of paying the punters.’’
