Hanagan to ride Snow Fairy
Champion jockey-elect Hanagan has been chosen by Ed Dunlop to partner the dual Oaks winner with Ryan Moore, Eddie Ahern and Richard Hughes, who have ridden the filly in the past, all unavailable.
Snow Fairy was last seen finishing fourth in the St Leger against the colts but steps back down half a mile in trip for this weekend’s showpiece race.
“I’m delighted to have got the ride,” said Hanagan.
Meanwhile, Richard Hughes closed the gap behind Hanagan in the race for the British jockeys’ title to seven after riding an across-the-card treble yesterday.
Hughes, who begins a seven-day suspension on Saturday, now has 165 winners after partnering the Richard Hannon-trained Byronyto a clear-cut success at Kempton following a double at Lingfield in the afternoon.
The news of Hughes’s hat-trick is unlikely to be well received in the offices of bookmakers Ladbrokes, who earlier in the day revealed they have paid out on Hanagan landing his first jockeys’ crown.
