Dunlop hopeful of Pimpernel recovery

JOHN DUNLOP is keeping his fingers crossed Elusive Pimpernel’s season will not be held up too much after he was forced to miss an intended engagement in tomorrow’s Prix du Jockey Club due to injury.

The three-year-old was due to tackle 10 furlongs for the first time in the French Derby having finished fifth in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, but an 11th hour setback means he will not be travelling to Chantilly.

“It’s very disappointing indeed and these things happen sometimes at the wrong time,” said Dunlop.

“One always hopes these things are minor and it appears it is at this present time, so we hope and pray that is the case,” he said.

“It is disappointing for everyone involved but that’s racing and there is a chance he could come back for Royal Ascot.”
