Rain needed for Beauty’s Saval Beg bid

CONNECTIONS of Profound Beauty are praying for rain ahead of the Seamus & Rosemary McGrath Memorial Saval Beg Stakes at Leopardstown tomorrow.

Rain needed for Beauty’s Saval Beg bid

They warn the six-year-old will not make her seasonal debut in the Listed race unless conditions are suitable.

“It all depends on the going. If it rains and the going is all right, she will come back and she will run very well,” said Stan Cosgrove, racing manager for owners Moyglare Stud.

“She’s in great order and she’s a smashing mare.

“I don’t know if it’s going to rain or not. She won’t run if we don’t get the rain. It’s going to be a long old season.”

The Dermot Weld-trained mare has not raced since finishing fourth in the Irish St Leger last September and her long-term target this year is the Melbourne Cup in November, in which she was fifth in 2008.

Haralan gets his chance in Group company after landing a handicap for trainer John Oxx over this course and distance last month.

New stable jockey Fran Berry partnered the four-year-old gelding, owned by the Aga Khan, for the first time in public that day and is looking forward to the race.

“He won his handicap nicely the last day. It’s a big step up in class for him, but he’s been working very well at home and is well worth a shot on this company,” said Berry.

“He’s open to improvement. He’s only had three runs in his life. It’s his toughest test yet but we are very hopeful of a big run.”

Loch Long reverts to the Flat after a jumping campaign which he wound up with a good third to Barizan in the Champion Four Year Old Hurdle at Punchestown last month.

“It’s a very competitive race. Loch Long probably needs a bit of cut in the ground,” said trainer Tracey Collins.

“He’ll go there and compete and we’ll see how he gets on.

“He’s had a nice break since his run over hurdles at Punchestown. He’d been gelded before that and took it well, but he’s up against some top-class opposition.”
