DAVY RUSSELL worked his magic on the hitherto disappointing Bootlegger, carrying the Cork Constitution rugby colours, in the Scarragh Maiden Hurdle at Cork last night.

Trained by Tom Mullins for Cork owner, Pat O’Donovan, Bootlegger made a lot of the running and was well in control up the long straight.

O’Donovan, who played for Con and Munster, is otherwise probably best known as the owner of Vintage Tipple, who was trained by Paddy Mullins to win the Irish Oaks at the Curragh in 2003.
