Guineas run on cards for Dancer
The Danehill Dancer filly, trained by Tommy Stack, opened her account in emphatic fashion with a two-and-a-half length success in a 30-runner maiden over seven furlongs at the Curragh earlier this month.
Connections will monitor her progress over the next couple of weeks before deciding whether to pitch her into the Classic on May 23.
“She’s a nice filly. She was a bit weak at the end of last year so we didn’t get a run into her,” Stack’s son and assistant Fozzy said.
“She travelled well but probably got left in front soon enough. It’s a possibility she could run in the Irish Guineas but we’ll see how she is in the next fortnight.”
Lolly For Dolly booked her Guineas ticket when winning the Group Three Athasi Stakes at the Curragh earlier this month.
Meanwhile, connections of Wave Of Applause are not going to be tempted by Royal Ascot despite the filly making a winning debut at Leopardstown on Sunday. Races at Naas or the Curragh beckon for the two-year-old daughter of Royal Applause, who got up in the shadow of the post to pip Catalpa Sail by a head over six furlongs.
“She quickened well in the last furlong and she’d been working nicely,” trainer Tommy Stack’s son and assistant Fozzy said.
“She probably wants a bit
further and seven furlongs or a mile won’t be any problem to you her. Pedigree suggests it won’t be.
“She’s a good-looking filly with plenty of size and scope so let’s hope she’ll improve as the year goes on.
“She won’t go to Royal Ascot she’ll probably go to Naas. There’s a Group Three on June Bank Holiday Monday over here or there’s a fillies’ Listed race on Derby weekend at the Curragh.
“One of those two will be her next start.”
And Address Unknown is likely to have another fairly low-key outing despite returning with credit from his run at Leopardstown over the weekend.
Dermot Weld’s colt, who is owned by Khalid Abdullah, had been rather unlucky on his reappearance in the Ballysax Stakes but stepped up a notch to finish second to the Aidan O’Brien-trained Midas Touch in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial.
“He ran fine at the weekend,” said the owner’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe.
“It’s hard to know with him. He’s not a Derby horse I don’t think and he has a couple of possibilities coming up. The Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh will probably come a bit soon, but there is another 10-furlong Listed race that is a possibility.”
