Darcy fails breath test

MICHAEL DARCY missed four rides at Limerick yesterday, having failed an alcohol breath test prior to racing.

The stewards received a report from Al Guy, doping control officer, who stated that shortly after 2pm Darcy had shown to be positive for alcohol in a screening test.

At 2.20 two further breath tests indicated readings of 43 and 42, both over the limit of 35. Darcy accepted Guy’s evidence.

The stewards concluded that Darcy was unfit to ride and referred the matter to the Turf Club’s Referrals Committee. All riders at the meeting were tested.
