Pozyc poised to pounce
Willie Mullins’ four-year-old showed plenty of ability on the flat as a juvenile, without winning, and returned in good shape at Clonmel last month.
Far from neglected in the market, mildly surprising considering his long absence, he certainly hinted at much better to come.
The selection was doing all his best work at the end of that two and a half miles, failing by half a length to reel in Mazara.
Pozyc is surely entitled to come on for the outing and the contest could hardly have worked out any better with The Cockney Squire (third) and Lascalahall (fourth) winning easily in the meantime.
The most interesting race of the day is the opening Mullinavat Novice Hurdle, which brings together a number of horses who may have a decent future.
Cadspeed will be popular, having finally got off the mark over jumps in style at Leopardstown in February, but preference is for Gates Of Rome.
Colm Murphy’s charge is on the upgrade and will be seeking a hat-trick of successes, having appeared to be a modest enough sort earlier on.
He won a moderate maiden by 19 lengths at Clonmel and then indicated a liking for this track when beating previous winner, Misala, by four and a half lengths last time.
