Punter’s £1m hope

A PUNTER from Kent is on the verge of a £1 million bookie bashing win in today’s Gold Cup after placing a series of 10p bets with William Hill, and he doesn’t even have to back the winner.

Punter’s £1m hope

The telephone customer placed a series of extraordinary 10p each-way accumulators with Hills on Thursday on the Cheltenham races, with the final leg being Friday’s Gold Cup.

The punter has £90,550 running on to five runners in the Gold Cup and will net various amounts if they fill the places in the big race. If the punter gets two or three of his runners in the frame, he is set to smash Hills £1m limit.

“It’s the most incredible bet I have seen in 20 years,” said Hills spokesman David Hood, “The long-shots have been winning all week and it has been a stellar meeting for bookies, But, this punter has found a hatful of them to link in to accumulators. He looks guaranteed for the biggest payday of his life on Friday.”

The punters chances are:

Denman (4-1) – wins £181,100 if placed

Imperial Commander (8-1) – wins £271,650

Cooldine (SP) – wins £271,650 (estimated)

Tricky Trickster (16-1) – wins £543,300

Carruthers (50-1) – wins £1,222,425

Maximum Exposure – £2,037,375 (Hills limit – £1m)

* Paddy Power predicts success for Kauto Star today will cost the bookmaking industry £40-50m and will cost Powers themselves between £3m and £4m.
