Listowel ‘unfit for racing’ but forecast favourable
The track was found to be unfit for racing, following a visit by the senior Turf Club inspector of courses, Val O’Connell.
Turf Club Press Officer, Cliff Noone, said: “They had an inch of rain at Listowel yesterday and the course is currently unfit for racing.
“Val O’Connell will return to Listowel on Thursday afternoon and reassess the situation and, hopefully, the good weather which is forecast will materialise and things will be okay.”
Because of the dreadful weather a year ago, Listowel was forced to run a truncated programme.
The flat races were abandoned and the Festival was an all National Hunt one, reduced to five days and starting on the Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Thursday’s card at Tipperary is subject to an 8am inspection on the morning of the meeting.
