Swinburn backs Fallon

FORMER jockey Walter Swinburn does not expect Kieren Fallon’s lengthy absence from race riding to trouble him as he makes his comeback on Friday.

Swinburn backs Fallon

Swinburn, who won the Epsom Derby three times, is no stranger to spells on the sidelines himself having suffered a serious fall in Hong Kong in 1996 before two long stints out of action due to weight problems.

“Obviously he’s built his comeback up by stating that he’s going to be champion jockey, but the upside of it is that the break will not be a problem at all,” said Swinburn.

“He’ll have been able to recharge the batteries and take stock. He looks very fit and I should think he’s been chomping at the bit for this day to come.

“I don’t think the break from race riding will be a problem for him at all, as it wouldn’t for any jockey who has ridden in the top flight.”
