RUBY WALSH made his first ride at Ffos Las a winning one when Irish raider Carsonstown Boy claimed the opening Iwan Thomas Novices’ Hurdle at the official opening of the Welsh track.

With Ireland accounting for nearly one third of the declarations in front of the 10,000 sellout crowd, a fair proportion of the seven races were up for export, five of which headed across the Irish Sea.

The Colin McBratney-trained Carsonstown Boy (4-1) was trying three miles for the first time, and had no problem with the extra distance to shrug off the attentions of House Of Bourbon by two and a half lengths.
