Lagoon set for quick follow-up

DAVID WACHMAN’S Lagoon should go close in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Handicap at the Curragh tonight.

The daughter of Montjeu makes a quick reappearance, following her first success at Naas on Monday.

That performance was well in advance of previous efforts and the three-year-old is clearly on the upgrade.

The selection went off a heavily-backed favourite at Naas and didn’t disappoint, cruising to a three and a half lengths defeat of stable companion, Pride Celebre.

Droppping down two furlongs in trip is a minor concern, but is offset by the fact she runs here under just a mandatory 5lbs penalty.

Aidan O’Brien’s Maurice Utrillo, clearly no star, can land the Great Value Derby Hospitality Maiden.

A son of Sadler’s Wells, he produced two reasonable efforts last season, runner up to Oh Gooodness Me at Gowran Park and third to Nafaath at Tipperary, and this looks a very weak affair by Curragh standards.

The featured Listed Mogeely Stud Silver Stakes is particularly tricky, with the nod falling on Pat Flynn’s She’s Our Mark.

The mare got back on the winning trail at Gowran Park last month and a drop of rain would increase confidence in her ability to get the job done.
