Ascot option for Voy Por Ustedes
A leading fancy for the Ryanair Chase, the eight-year-old held an entry in the abandoned totepool Game Spirit Chase at Newbury today.
The Betfair Ascot Chase over two miles five and a half furlongs has been a potential target for the Alan King-trained gelding for some time.
It is possible, however, that the Game Spirit Chase could be rescheduled, and Ascot next Saturday would be a possible date.
“We are certainly going to try to save the Game Spirit, but we won’t know for sure until Monday,” said Paul Struthers, media relations manager for the British Horseracing Authority.
That prospect would give connections of Voy Por Ustedes food for thought.
“That would be a possibility. It would be great as we could look at the Ascot Chase and the Game Spirit as well. It would be quite intriguing really,” said Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Sir Robert Ogden.
Noland, who had been duelling for favouritism in the Ryanair with Voy Por Ustedes, has been ruled out of Cheltenham through the recurrence of an old leg injury.
“I’ve read about Noland, it’s most unfortunate,” added Simpson.
