Injured Fitzgerald seeks Gowran tonic

OPERATION Houdini will bid to provide Davy Fitzgerald with a much-needed tonic in today’s Ellen Construction Thyestes Chase.

The Co Limerick trainer is in hospital after suffering a neck injury in a schooling accident on Friday.

“I’ll be OK, but it will take time,” said Fitzgerald.

The inevitable testing conditions will suit Operation Houdini down to the ground.

“The horse is in good form and we’re looking forward to running him,” added the trainer.

Willie Mullins is cautious about the prospects of his three runners – 2007 Thyestes winner Homer Wells, Arbor Supreme and Emma Jane.

“Arbor Supreme won it well at Fairyhouse but he’s got a lot of weight tomorrow,” said the Co Carlow handler.

“It’s a hard race to win with that amount of weight, but he’s in good form. We’re just hoping that Homer Wells might be back to himself but it’s more in hope than anything else.”

“Emma Jane needed it badly the last day so hopefully she will run a lot better this time.”
