New €6m pavilion stand at Cork opened

THE new pavilion stand at Cork Racecourse, costing €6m, was officially opened yesterday by Batt O’Keeffe, Minister for Education.

The two-storey facility has capacity to cater for 700 people and includes a public bar, restaurant, fast-food outlet and coffee bar.

The facility also includes Tote outlets, on both floors, and Paddy Power have a betting office on the ground floor.

Minister O’Keeffe said: “As somebody who has attended Mallow regularly for years, it gives me tremendous pleasure to see this wonderful new facility open at the track.”

HRI Chief Executive, Brian Kavanagh, said: “Horse Racing Ireland is delighted to suppport this new facility and I congratulate Joe Walsh (Chairman of Cork Racecourse) and Michael O’Neill (manager) and the project team for delivering such an impressive stand on time.”

Chairman-Walsh remarked: “The new facility will provide a first-class experience for racegoers and will give much needed flexibility for non-racing activity into the future.”
