Dates set for appeals

DATES have been set this month for three appeal hearings at the Turf Club headquarters at the Curragh.

Two involve Classic races held at the track this year – the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby and the Boylesports Irish 1000 Guineas.

On Thursday, July 24, the owners of Curtain Call will try to overturn the decision of the Curragh stewards, who decided not to promote the colt to fourth in the Irish Derby following interference caused by Alessandro Volta. The hearing will begin at 11.30am.

At 11am on Monday, July 28, owner Hubie de Burgh and trainer John Murphy will also hope to reverse the decision to demote Tuscan Evening from second to fourth in the Irish 1000 Guineas.

The third appeal concerns trainer Thomond O’Mara, who will face the Turf Club at 11am on Monday, July 14. He is to appeal against the decision of the Limerick stewards to fine him €1,500 and suspend Vintage Year for 60 days under the ’non-trier’ rule after the horse finished fifth in the Paulaner Alcohol Free Beer Handicap.
