Lady Ruler can go one better

ON a particularly moderate card, Thomas Cleary’s Lady Ruler may be up to landing the nap in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Auction Maiden at Roscommon tonight.

Lady Ruler can go one better

The filly will be partnered by Cleary’s son, Rory, and only has to repeat her most recent effort at Bellewstown to go very close.

That Bellewstown effort was only four days ago, when the daughter of Viking Ruler didn’t enjoy a lot of luck in running. Held up on the inside for much of the journey, she had to be switched to the outside in the straight to launch her challenge.

By the time Lady Ruler had hit top gear the winner, Redera, had flown, although closing him down to three parts of a length at the line.

If Ballivor handles the ground he is likely to make short work of the opposition in the Tote Jackpot Races 3 to 6 Maiden.

He made a fine start at Naas, fourth to Central Station, and was in far better company than this when about two and a half lengths fourth to The Fist Of God in a winners’ race, also at Naas, subsequently.

If the markets speak in favour of Stylish Article then he would look very much the right one in the Open A Tote Account Maiden Hurdle.

The problem, of course, is that Kevin O’Brien’s charge hasn’t been seen since failing by a short head to concede Leanne 13lbs at Clonmel back in December.

Philip Rothwell’s Tally Em Up gets the nod in the Bumper, even if a trifle disappointing when only a remote fourth at Down Royal on his reappearance.

The surface was on the good side on that occasion and the selection is surely better judged on a couple of useful performances, in testing ground, at the back-end of last year.
