Lyons tempted by York prize
They have to decide whether on Saturday to ask the three-year-old to defy the handicapper and bid for rich pickings at York or go for lesser prize money in a Listed race at Sandown where he is better treated by the race conditions.
Dohasa has been handed top weight of 9st 7lb in the £100,000-added Betfair Sprint on the Knavesmire but would meet his contemporaries on more favourable terms in the bettercasino.com Scurry Stakes, although that is worth only £26,000 .
At York he would have to concede 16lb to Temple Of Thebes, but only 5lb should the two clash at the Esher course.
“The York race is worth a lot of prize money, but he has a lot of weight. In the Listed race at Sandown he’s better treated at the conditions,” said trainer Ger Lyons.
“He also needs good to firm ground so I’ll have to discuss it with everyone over the next 24 hours. I would love to win at York as I used to live up there and the prize money is very attractive, so I am edging towards that at the moment.”
Dohasa is generally available at 12-1 for the Betfair Sprint in which Michael Jarvis Ancien Regime, allotted 9st 6lb, is the 4-1 market leader.
