Bank on Kargalito go one better

JOHN OXX’S Kargali is a confident nap choice in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden at Tipperary this evening.

Bank on Kargalito go one better

Unraced as a two-year-old, the grey son of Invincible Spirit made a promising start at the Curragh just eleven days ago. Held up for much of the mile trip by Michael Kinane, Kargali arrived with every chance through the final furlong, but just couldn’t get on terms with Poet, going under by half a length.

Poet, who had the benefit of two outings last season, went off a well-backed favourite, so time may well reveal the form to be useful.

Dermot Weld’s Tian Shan, formely trained in France by Andre Fabre, is the interesting one in the five-runner Diamond Green Race.

He hasn’t been seen finishing a close third in a Group 3 at Longchamp back in June and, obviously, his travels in the market will be all important.

In any case, the simple fact is that Tian Shan has a minimum of 20lbs in hand of these and has to get the vote.

Pat Smullen partners Tian Shan and he and Weld also have possibilities with Prince Erik and Luxie.

In theory Prince Erik is a certainty in the Thomastown Castle Race, on the basis he has at least 26lbs up his sleeve on all of the opposition who qualify for a rating. He put up a game performance At Dundalk last time, grabbing Kempes late to score by a short head.

Prince Erik is a bit of an enigmatic character, however, who can take plenty of stoking and, though having to get the nod, may be best swerved if punters are asked to play at cramped odds.

The diminutive Luxie should go close in the Sponsor A Race At Tipperary in 2008 Race. The forecast testing surface will not be a problem and she is fancied to defy a 5lbs hike in the weights for winning a moderate contest at Cork by a cosy two lengths.

Comadoir, who handled the heavy ground in good style when runner-up behind the gambled-on Cool Tarifa at the Curragh, can take the Ballyhane Stud EBF Maiden.
