Hourigan sweet on Mossbank for next season
The eight-year-old finished runner-up to Our Vic in the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and also chased home Denman in the Lexus.
Hourigan believes he now has a ready-made replacement for his veteran Beef Or Salmon when the time finally comes for him to retire.
“I think you’ll see an even better Mossbank next year,” said Hourigan.
“Next season he will be competing at the very top level. He has always been a big, leggy horse and when he won his first point-to-point we thought we had another Beef Or Salmon on our hands.
“He then won a Listed novice hurdle on his first start over hurdles but then he lost his way.
“He has grown five inches though from when he was a five-year-old to now.
“He’ll definitely stay three miles, without a doubt. All he did at Leopardstown behind Denman was stay on and he had gone the longest way round the whole way that day.
“He’ll go to Punchestown next, that is the plan, but Beef might turn up there also if the ground is right. I think he’ll retire at the end of this year,” he told At The Races.
