Nickname can spoil King’s comeback

THE €100,000 Ellen Construction Thyestes Chase is the feature at Gowran Park today, but for the thousands set to flock to the track and those watching on television, assuming the meeting passes an 8am inspection this morning, the real attraction will be the return to action of former Cheltenham Gold Cup hero, Kicking King, in the Normans Grove Chase.

Nickname can spoil King’s comeback

This Grade 2 has been re-routed from Sunday’s abandoned Fairyhouse meeting and is a major plus for the Kilkenny track. Kicking King has been sidelined since winning the King George V1 Chase at Sandown, in December of 2005.

Hopefully, he will produce a decent performance and give his trainer, Tom Taaffe, something on which he can build.
