McNamara to ride as first jockey to O’Grady
He was Michael Hourigan’s number one for the last two seasons, but has parted company with the Limerick handler to team up with O’Grady.
Speaking yesterday, McNamara reported: “Before Galway, I was asked by Edward O’Grady if I would consider going to him.
“I though about it for a while and indicated to Edward and Michael that I might ride for both of them. Neither was very enthusiastic, so I had to choose.”
McNamara emphasised there has been no falling-out with Hourigan and the parting was amicable. “I have a lot to be grateful for where Michael is concerned and will continue to ride out for him a couple of mornings a week”, said McNamara. “He gave me a great chance with Hi Cloy and I won three Grade 1’s on him.
“The best day, however, was when taking the Hennessy at Leopardstown last February on Beef Or Salmon, especially the way we won it.
“I will ride everything in Edward’s and the chance to get on the likes of Catch Me, Clopf and Sky’s The Limit was too good to turn down.”
