Troy off the mark in style

AIDAN O’BRIEN unleashed another nascent superstar in the Stan James Maiden Stakes, an event a certain George Washington finished third in two years ago when making his racecourse debut, at Newmarket yesterday.

Achilles Of Troy is his name and the 7-4 favourite, third on his debut, obliterated his rivals by five lengths for Christophe Soumillon and is likely to head to Royal Ascot.

“He looks a nice horse,” said the Ballydoyle handler. “He was always quick but was very green at Naas. I don’t think five or six furlongs would bother him.”
