Sir Percy team in confident mood
The 2006 Derby winner is in the process of putting the finishing touches to his preparations.
In what looks like being the most competitive race on World Cup night, with Red Rocks, Collier Hill, Youmzain and Pop Rock among the 15 scheduled to meet, Tregoning admitted he could not be happier with his charge.
“His weight is right and he’s had a couple of outings on the turf. I have been thrilled with him and he is looking in great shape,” said Tregoning.
“Basically he had niggling problems after the Derby and an interrupted preparation going into the Champion Stakes at Newmarket last year, when he was a bit disappointing.
“He’s had a much better run going into this race, he’s travelled well over here and settled in well. Martin (Dwyer) is happy with him and we’re up for it!”
Clive Brittain is also bullish about the chances of his Dubai World Cup contender Kandidate, who is currently the outsider of the eight runners scheduled to go to post.
“For me, I think the big occasion brings out the best in him. I haven’t come here to be second, third, fourth or fifth – I have come here to win,” said Brittain.
“I couldn’t believe how well he is looking – I’m delighted with his overall condition.
“He is mature and has become very consistent and never been in better form than he is at the moment.
“He’ll have his final piece of work tomorrow and that will be it.”
Vermilion, Japan’s representative in the World Cup, is also reported to be in tip-top shape.
Spokesman Toshi Kiyota reported that all was well with Vermilion and also with Fusaichi Richard who runs in the Godolphin Mile.
“Everything is going well since their arrival, and I hope they will run well. The track surface is a little different here compared with at home, but I hope that won’t be a problem.”
