Three new Board members appointed to HRI

SPORTS Minister John O'Donoghue has announced the appointment of three new members to the Board of Horse Racing Ireland - Michael Doyle, Michael Murphy and James Nicholson.

Michael Doyle, Manager of Killarney Racecourse from 1992 to 2003, has been nominated by the Turf Club in his capacity as Deputy Senior Steward of the Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee. He replaces William Flood whose term of office has expired.

Michael Murphy, Manager of Wexford Racecourse since 1990, has been nominated by the Association of Irish Racecourses in his capacity as Chairman of the Association. He replaces Jerry Desmond whose term of office has expired.

James Nicholson, Chairman of Down Royal Racecourse for the past 15 years and owner of James Nicholson Wine Merchants has been appointed to replace John Kidd as the Northern Ireland representative whose term of office has expired.

Commenting on the new appointments the Minister said: “We are enjoying an era of unprecedented success in Irish racing. Horse Racing Ireland is doing a tremendous job and this performance is due to the experience and expertise of the members of the Board. I have no doubt but that the performance of the Board will be continued and enhanced by these appointments.”
