Benefit night for McNamara

A BENEFIT function in aid of jockey JP McNamara will be held at Limerick Racecourse tomorrow night.

McNamara suffered serious spinal injuries in a fall at Bangor on April 22.

He is continuing his recovery at the International Spinal Injuries & Rehabilitation Centre housed at the Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital in Aylesbury.

A group of friends and colleagues have organised tomorrow’s event, with all monies going to the JP McNamara Benefit Fund.

One of the organisers, Frankie Ward, explained that the highlight of the evening will be an auction.

“HRI have very kindly donated a designated set of racing silks, Adrian McGuire is offering a season’s training fees, The K Club have offered a fourball, there is a Manchester United jersey signed by all the team, Faithlegg House Hotel is donating overnight accommodation, dinner and a round of golf for two; Kieran Fallon is giving the coveted Dylan Thomas Derby winning number cloth while Waterford Crystal is producing a glass vase.

“For rugby fans, there is a cherished Munster jersey signed by the team. Among the other items are membership for Fairyhouse Racecourse, vouchers for the Curragh, Limerick, Punchestown, Galway and many others.

“The auction also includes Stena Line travel to Britain, a very special Beatles record, nominations to Westener, Revoque, Moscow Society, High Roller, Wizard King etc, are also on offer while John Clarke is donating a very special case of wine.”
