Lady Shanghai can make most of a good draw

LADY SHANGHAI, with the best of the draw in 16, can land the nap in the Irish Stallion Farms' EBF Fillies Maiden at Galway this evening.

The handicapper says she's an unlikely winner, because the selection is rated 8lbs a worse horse than Unlock, who is likely to emerge as her main rival.

But this game is all about opinion and I have little hesitation rowing in with Kevin Prendergast's daughter of Alhaarth.

It has been a case of unfullied promise thus far for Lady Shanghai, but it does not look the strongest of races and her chance is obvious.

She warmed up for this test when dead-heating for second with Potion at Tralee, a length and a half adrift of Nell Gwyn.

Expect Declan McDonogh to make plenty of use of his charge from the start and any rain that falls would increase confidence in her ability to do the business.

If the National Hunt handicapper is right then Oodachee will make short work of the opposition in the Galway City Vintners' Novice Chase.

Sorry Al and Deep Return are his two worries and Oodachee has 12lbs and 13lbs in hand of them respectively at these weights.

Charlie Swan's gelding, however, is never one to be fully trusted and the vote falls on in-form Deep Return, fresh from two impressive displays at Kilbeggan.

Noel Meade and Paul Carberry team up with Deep Return and they can also provide the answer to the 20-runner Gilmartin Group Maiden Hurdle with Cleni Boy.

Certain to have been well schooled, he won a bumper in smooth style at Punchestown back in April and this is a particularly weak contest.

Feature event is the Listed Ardilaun House Hotel Oyster Stakes. A real puzzle, perhaps the fitting of blinkers for the first time will work the oracle on John Oxx's lightly-raced Zarwala and she is the choice.
