George odds-on for winning comeback
Aidan O’Brien’s colt, a brilliant winner of the Stan James 2000 Guineas in May, has been off the track since sustaining a hip injury when finishing second to Araafa in the Irish equivalent.
Bookmakers bet365 are taking no chances and make him the odds-on favourite, with star mare Soviet Song next best on 7-2 . O’Brien is keen to get George Washington back in action with next month’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in mind and is hoping he will return to his best, even without the services of regular partner Kieren Fallon.
“He’s ready to go racing again, although we are bringing him back quicker than we would normally with a horse that’s had an injury like his,” said O’Brien. “It will be a big learning curve for Mick (Kinane). He has gone on soft ground in the past but as long as it is good, safe ground that’s all we want.”
