Aracena’s turn looks to have arrived

THE frustrating Aracena, placed in all four of her starts, is napped to get off the mark in the Anglo Irish Bank Maiden at the first stage of the Tramore Festival this evening.

Aracena’s turn looks to have arrived

John Oxx's filly is clearly no star, but seems honest enough and this appears to be a good opportunity. She again performed solidly at Wexford last time when beaten a length into second spot by Monsieur Henri.

Aracena battled on bravely and the fact the daughter of Grand Lodge seemed at home on that tight track augurs well for her prospects round here.

David Wachman provides twin-dangers in Fedorova and Giant Star.

Fedorova was five lengths adrift of the selection in third at Wexford and, considering it was her seasonal debut, is probably entitled to finish closer now.

Giant Star, a newcomer by Giant's Causeway, may, however, be a bigger danger. There was positive word for him at Galway, but he refused to enter the stalls in the contest won by Tajneed.

Chicago Vic, a disappointing 12th to Cuan Na Grai in the Galway Hurdle, is the choice in the Noel Cummins Bookmaker (Ladies) Maiden. She was held up behind then and never got in a blow. A smashing mare when on song, a lot more use is likely to be made of Chicago Vic on this occasion and the booking of Nina Carberry is a big plus.

Piltown, tough and resolute and sixth behind Almighty Jade on the level at Galway, can make a winning debut over jumps in the Welcome To Tramore three-year-old Maiden Hurdle.

Irish Stream, who must have driven connections almost to distraction for a number of campaigns, is the choice in the Sunnybank Hotel Handicap Chase.

He seemed to enjoy himself over fences at Roscommon last week, beat Ichi Beau a length, and could be up to defying a 7lbs rise in the weights. The form was boosted when the fourth, Runfar, scored at Ballinrobe on Monday.
