Cox hoping to seethe light
The three-year-old is due to go up 11lb for his five-length victory over Easy Air at Ascot last Friday but has only a 3lb penalty in this valuable handicap.
And he has a good draw, 15, while one of his main market rivals, Sir Gerard, is out wide in stall one.
“It was a good performance at Ascot last week and he’s due to go up 11lb for that. We’ve got an opportunity to run with a 3lb penalty so I just hope it doesn’t come too quick for him,” said Cox.
“A high draw on the round course is always helpful.
“It’s a chance we’re quite happy to take.
“He’s a big strong individual and I’m not worried about taking on older horses from this time of year onwards.
“A similar performance to last week would be quite an exciting thing to watch.”
Meanwhile, Mick Channon is hoping the consistent Capable Guest can finally land the big prize he deserves.
The four-year-old has been on the go since February but a string of creditable efforts means the handicapper refuses to relent.
After being on the wrong side of the draw at Royal Ascot, he bounced back to form at Sandown behind Hinterland before a fine third at Newbury last time.
“He keeps running well in these big handicaps without having much luck,” said Channon.
“We have a reasonable draw (12), but he always needs luck in running.”
