Conna set to be king of the Castle

JIMMY MANGAN'S Conna Castle can hardly be opposed in the Laurels Bar Hurdle at Killarney this evening.

The classy seven-year-old could take high order over fences next season and, presumably, this will be his final outing before a summer on grass.

Conna Castle ran much too freely when beaten 13 lengths by Straw Bear at Aintree, but even the bare form of that contest leaves him with a lot in hand against this opposition.

Previously, he produced a career-best effort when scoring by 20 lengths at Naas. Glenfinn Captain (second) and Drummer First (fourth) have both scored in the meantime.

Mangan could also supply the solution to the Irish Stallion Farms Beginners Chase with Bobbawn.

The Bob Back gelding indicated he was in good shape for this test when easily taking a winners of one at Doneraile last month.

Michael Halford's Dissitation is a hopeful nap choice in the Irish Stallion Farms' EBF Fillies Median Auction Maiden.

The daughter of Spectrum made a satisfactory seasonal debut at Naas when a short head and a length and a half third behind Baynes Cross and Diyla.

The McSweeney Arms Maiden Hurdle should be informative and it will be no surprise should it house a number of future winners.

Nowyouretalking, Lord Byron, Flying Johnny M and Treacle can all be given a live chance, with preference for the first named.

Timmy Hyde's charge was returning from a long break when falling at the last - he had just about enough at the time - in the race won by Knockadruce at Gowran Park.

His only other outing was in a bumper at Gowran back in April of 2004 when easily beating two smart horses, Macs Flamingo and Mac Three.
