Kinane moves on to 64 mark with a double
Castledale, trained by David Wachman for a syndicate comprising of Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary, Sean Barrett and Colm Moloney, defied top weight in the seven furlong nursery when getting the better of Granted Wish by half a length.
Kinane followed up when Sheer Tenby, winner of the McDonogh Handicap at Galway two years ago, landed the one mile Gowran Park Golf and Leisure Handicap by one length for trainer Paul Roche who said “this horse has dropped down the handicap. But he needed to as his had problems with his legs.”
In Theory, a winner at Cork on Sunday, followed up under a 5lb penalty in the latest leg of the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap series. Ridden by Pat Cosgrave, who leads the race for the apprentice title, In Theory may be switched to hurdles before the ground turns soft, according to trainer Ger Lyons.
Rashay, with Gerry O’Dwyer deputising for Rachel Costello who injured a knee and an ankle in a gallops fall on Tuesday, scored the eleventh win of his career when taking the Goresbridge Handicap by half a length for trainer Michael Halford.
A minute’s silence was observed in memory off jump jockey Kieran Kelly who died on Tuesday night as a result of severe head injuries sustained in a fall at Kilbeggan.
lAs a mark of respect for the late Kieran Kelly, the Offices of the Turf Club and Horse Racing Ireland at the Curragh and Kill, Co Kildare will be closed on Friday 15th August until 1pm.
