‘Soft’ touch for Landfall Angel in Munster Open

On a bright but showery day with underfoot conditions on the heavy side, they got through with flying colours with the 21 courses required completed at 3.30.

The feature event saw some excellent coursing with Blue Acre, owned by The Yorkie Four Syndicate and trained by Donie Kelly representing Cork, getting through to the final from the top half while the English owned Landfall Angel, trained by Michael Barrett and representing Tipperary, winning her way through on the bottom half.

The handicap was very much in the Cork bitch's favour going into the decider, she was out for just 84 secs while the Tipperary bitch - who got a real though one in her semi final and was out for 107 secs - had a total of 157secs.

In the final the dogs were slipped behind a bouncing hare. The Cork bitch was soon in control, opening a gap of five lengths and she looked all set for an easy victory. But fate took a hand when she ran into a soft patch of ground and lost her action completely to let the Tipperary representative in for an easy success.
