Ireland sixth in showjumping

Ireland’s show jumpers finished a disappointing sixth of eight teams in the opening round of the Samsung Nations Cup Super League in La Baule, France, yesterday.

Only Kevin Babington, riding Carling King, managed a clear round and that was after he had lowered two in round one. Jessica Kurten and Quibell had a half-way score of four, but added another eight faults on their return for a total of 12. Cian O’Connor and Waterford Crystal scored nine and four, while double European champion Peter Charles had an afternoon to forget with a two-round total of 37 faults.

Ireland’s final tally was 33 faults. Germany took the honours with a total of four, ahead of France on 12.
