Zaffamore a good bet

IMPROVING novice chaser Zaffamore is napped to make his first venture into handicap company a winning one at Kempton Park today.

Zaffamore a good bet

Henrietta Knight’s seven-year-old gelding has raced only seven times in all but has really come into his own since being put over fences this season.

In his three starts this term he has won twice at Ludlow but sandwiched between those victories was an unplaced effort at Taunton.

There were excuses that day as connections felt Zaffamore had been unsuited by the very heavy ground.

However, he bounced back to form next time when he jumped soundly to beat the highly-regarded Montreal by 14 lengths.

The handicapper has taken no chance with Zaffamore, putting him on a mark of 130 today, but he is a progressive individual and with conditions not expected to be too testing at the Sunbury track he looks a good bet to score again.

Champion trainer Martin Pipe can be on the mark with Desert Air and Jaybejay.

Desert Air was fairly useful on the Flat for Paul Cole and has taken well to hurdling.

After a promising second at Huntingdon on his hurdling debut the colt justified favouritism at Taunton, making all and holding on gamely to score by three-quarters of a length from Thesis.

He would not have to improve too much to follow up in the first division of the Rasher Frith Memorial Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle.

Jaybejay scored in good style at Wincanton last time and looks too strong for the likes of Scots Grey and Roveretto in the Kelly’s Boy Memorial Novices’ Chase.

Claude Greengrass looks the answer to the the Alfa Aggregate Products Novices’ Handicap Hurdle.

Jonjo O’Neill’s seven-year-old just failed to land a massive gamble at Catterick on his penultimate start but made amends at Doncaster next time when he got the better of The Name’s Bond.
