Ansar may be the answer to Plate puzzle

THE CULDEE, who would have been the selection, was yesterday balloted out of this afternoon’s Hewlett-Packard Galway Plate and, as third reserve, it seems highly unlikely he will get a run.

In his absence, Ansar is selected more in hope than confidence to give Dermot Weld a third success in the traditional Ballybrit feature to go with Kiichi and General Idea.

Ansar hasn’t had a run over fences since finishing a creditable fifth in this race last year behind Nearly A Moose, beaten a little over five lengths.
