Ansar may be the answer to Plate puzzle

THE CULDEE, who would have been the selection, was yesterday balloted out of this afternoon’s Hewlett-Packard Galway Plate and, as third reserve, it seems highly unlikely he will get a run.
Ansar may be the answer to Plate puzzle

In his absence, Ansar is selected more in hope than confidence to give Dermot Weld a third success in the traditional Ballybrit feature to go with Kiichi and General Idea.

Ansar hasn’t had a run over fences since finishing a creditable fifth in this race last year behind Nearly A Moose, beaten a little over five lengths.

The selection warmed up for this test with two recent promising efforts on the flat and looks well capable of another big effort, on a track for which he has shown a distinct liking in the past.

One Night Out is put forward as the principal among many dangers. He comes here on the back of two wins in moderate events, but if his suspect jumping holds up could go very close!

Whatever the fate of Ansar, Weld has three live possibilities on the level with Spirit Of Age, Orpington and Rich Sense.

Spirit Of Age, a bit disappointing when only third to Trefflich and Leeside Music at the Curragh, should find the company in the HP Indigo Impressions Maiden much more to her liking.

Orpington, blinkered for the first time and rested since finishing fourth to Barati at the Curragh back in April, gets the nod in the HP Software Management Services Maiden.

The progressive Rich Sense is the one to beat in the HP Ireland Handicap.

She trounced subsequent dual winner, Green Lassy, by five lengths to take her maiden at Fairyhouse and was then unsuited by the slow pace for much of the journey when still managing to beat Happy At Last comfortably at the Curragh.

Monday night’s hero, Rockstown Boy, is difficult to oppose in the HP Financial Services Hurdle.

He has a minimum of 20lbs in hand of his rivals and a creditable fourth to Bave Inca at Punchestown in April places him in a different league to this opposition.
