Salmon plans depend on weather

MICHAEL HOURIGAN indicated yesterday afternoon that it is far from certain Beef Or Salmon will make his seasonal debut in Sunday’s Munster National at Limerick.

The second favourite, behind Best Mate, for the Cheltenham Gold Cup has also been given an entry in Friday’s Grade Two National Lottery Agent Champion Chase over two and a half miles at Gowran Park.

“It all depends on the weather over the next few days and how the ground will be at the two tracks”, revealed Hourigan. “I won’t make up my mind until Thursday, but wherever he runs Timmy Murphy will ride.”

Beef Or Salmon, following an interrupted preparation, was fourth to Best Mate in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham in March and then rounded off his season with a smooth success at the Punchestown Festival in April.

Meanwhile, Liberman is a somewhat surprise entry in Sunday’s Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh.

Fifth in a maiden at Killarney for Tom Mullins, he then won on the level at Tramore for the Kilkenny handler.

He subsequently returned to Martin Pipe’s, for whom he won the Wetherbys’ Champion Bumper in 2003.

The word from Pipe’s yesterday is that the Cesarewitch is being given strong consideration as Liberman’s next port-of-call.
