Cardinal Sin hospitalised

CARDINAL Jaime Sin, the Philippines’ ailing Catholic church leader, was admitted to hospital today with an undisclosed illness.

After reaching the retirement age of 75, Sin resigned last November as head of the Manila archdiocese that he had served for nearly three decades.

Afflicted with kidney problems and diabetes, he has considerably reduced his public appearances in recent years but remained a steadfast guardian of democracy.
