Clonakilty Point off

CLONAKILTY point-to-point, scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed following a Turf Club inspection yesterday.

Due to heavy rain on Monday morning, the course was declared unfit for racing.

The postponement has upset trainer Michael Hourigan’s plans for Dorans Pride, bound to Cheltenham next week for the Foxhunters Chase.

Hourigan said at the weekend: “We schooled him over hurdles after racing at Limerick on Wednesday and he’s in great form. He will probably run at the Clonakilty point-to-point on Wednesday. The plan is to take him back to Cheltenham, where Richard Harding will ride him.”

After three open point-to-point wins this season, one more win between the flags would invalidate the 14-year-old’s hunter’s cert. Now he may have to make his seventh appearance at Chelthenham without a run since his ten length defeat at Leopardstown by Sheltering on February 9.
