Kilkenny success in Cork

KILKENNY BABY, the only unbeaten runner in the event going into the decider, duly came up trumps in the final of the McCarthy Insurance Group Cork Oaks at Curraheen Park on Saturday night.

Kilkenny success in Cork

The James Roche trained bitch took a flier from traps and led into the bend ahead of Mossend Cait.

The latter drifted wide between bends, allowing Tyrur Footsteps take up the chase. Both she and the strong finishing Late Delivery had every chance afterwards but Kilkenny Baby had too much resolution for the pair and at the line had a length to spare over Late Delivery.

The winner, owned by Eileen Roche and Imelda Phelan from Askeaton, clocked a personal best of 28.38 in taking the €8,000 prize.

The other noteworthy performance on the night was that of Tyrur Lee, who also turned in a career best run when clocking 28.49 in the Getting Out Stakes.

Mossend Bertie led early on but the winner asserted early in the back straight and eased to four and a half lengths success for the owner trainer combination of P.J. Fahy and Paul Hennessy.
